Track Your Kit
If you received a medical forensic ecxamination after a sexual assault, you can securely and anonymously track the status of your sexual assault evidence kit (also called a sexual assault kit or SAK) through Tennessee’s statewide tracking system.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s statewide Sexual Assault Kit Trarcking System allows survivors to anonymously monitor the locatgion and status of their kit throughout the evidence process.
The system was created to provide greater transparency, accountability, and information for survivors.
Your kit number was provided by the healthcare professional who performed your medical forensic examination or by law enforcement.

You’ll be able to see where your kit is throughout the process, including:
A healthcare professional, usually a SANE, collects evidence during your exam.
Within 24 hours, healthcare providers notify law enforcement. Within 7 days, law enforcement picks up your kit.
Within 10 days of receipt, law enforcement enters your kit into the statewide tracking system.
Within 30 days of taking possession, your kit is submitted to the crime lab for testing.
Your kit is securely stored according to Tennessee law
The location and status of your kit must be updated in the tacking system by law enforcement and the crime lab att each step of the process.
Yes. The tracking system allows you to check your kit using only your kit number. You do not need to enter your name to view your kit’s status.
If you lose your kit number, contact the law enforcement agency investigating your case or the healthcare facility where your forensic examination was completed. They can help you obtain your kit information.
Some steps in the process may take time. If you have questions about your kit or your case, contact your investigating law enforcement agency or your victim advocate.
A hold kit is a sexual assault evidence kit collected from an adult survivor who has not yet decided whether to make a police report.
If you choose not to report immediately, your kit is securely stored by law enforcement.
Hold kits are retained for at least 10 years or until a report is made, whichever comes first.
Your kit is not tested unless you decide to make a police report.
